Weight Loss Pills – High Hopes, Science and Reality

As more and more people become obese day by day, so is the number of people looking for ways to lose weight, avoid obesity or even maintain their shape. Although change of diet and regular exercise are the most popular and effective remedy to being overweight, many people prefer the use of weight loss pills for rapid and permanent loss of weight. One of the most popular weight loss pills being offered to these seekers is the Fat-binding pills.

“Fat-binding pills” is the term used by non-medical individuals while medical experts refer to it as “fat absorption inhibitors”. Its function is embedded in its name. It inhibits (hinders) absorption of fats. The most popular fat absorption inhibitor is “Xenical”. You can’t just go and buy it on your own. It would only be made available to you if it is prescribed by a physician. However, the closest substitute that can be bought without any prescription is called “Alli”. It is noteworthy that Alli is not as powerful and effective as Xenical. Both of them just prevent the fat in your food from being absorbed during digestion. Since they are not absorbed, they find their way to the excretory system and they get discarded from the body along with excreta and urine.

Fat binders are quite efficient for weight loss. In a year, those who take these pills are likely to shed 12-15 pounds more than what they would have lost without the pills.
As effective as these weight loss pills may be, they have their unpleasant side effects. Fat binding pills could send you to the toilet more frequently. They could give you an involuntary anal leakage or even make you flatulent. Hence, you are advised to cut down your fat intake before taking the pills to reduce the side effects. If you can cut down the fatty intake by at least 30%, then you are good to go.

Of all the side effects, the most serious is the prevention of your body from absorbing some beneficial vitamins. Therefore, it is important for you to consult your physician before taking any weight loss pills. He would prescribe the best multivitamin to take and when to take it so as to cushion the effects of the weight loss pills on your body.

Weighing the disadvantages of taking weight loss pills, improving your diets coupled with a regular exercise are much better. The regular exercise enhances the proper functioning of the heart while the pills are not beneficial to the heart. Despite all the disadvantages, some people still prefer the pills because they are not ready to give up their bad habits and because they are too lazy for a regular exercise. Really, the decision is left to the individual to weigh the pros and cons and decide which of them is suitable for him. Like they say, one man’s meat is another man’s poison. Having known all the possible side effects, if you still decide to go for the pills, it means you have prepared or fortified yourself against the side effects.
