Why You Should Exercise in a Group

Although when the it is dark and the whether is cold, it becomes very difficult to leave the warm and comfortable sofa in your house to go out for a weight loss workout, our students have been trained and motivated enough to be able to shun the comfort and pull themselves out into the cold to do some exercise till they wear themselves out. This is where the advantage of group workouts lies. When you do the exercise alone, it is very difficult to leave the comfort and warmth of your apartment. Group workouts have several advantages but the most important one is the building of the determination and drive to persevere.

1.      Commitment- Getting up to go to the gym becomes more and more difficult day by day if you are working out alone. But when you know that a group of other students are waiting for you or when some of them start calling your number, it will give you the push you need to get up and head for the gym. A recent survey showed that 61% of women find it very difficult to go to the gym when exercising alone. It also showed that the same percentage of women find it very exiting when the exercise is done with a/some friend(s) and they would even do the exercise better. That is the main reason people attend classes more regularly than they go to the gym.

2.     Motivation- The importance of exercising in a group can not be over emphasized. A recent Oxford study showed that people release more endorphins when they exercise as a group than when they exercise alone. This implies that you can do the exercise much harder and you can do it for a longer period of time when you are in a group. This also goes to show that you would likely lose weight faster with a friend or in a group of people than when you do workouts alone.

3.      Variety: When you do the same exercise everyday and you do it alone, boredom would definitely set in. Trying to change the routines would definitely be difficult. But with a group of fitness students, things would be more interesting. For instance, workouts like kickboxing can not be done alone. With a fitness class, each session would offer a different workout routine and there would be a focus on every part of your body to ensure that all your muscles develop equally throughout your body.

Your fitness, flexibility and strength would improve faster. An injury could occur while exercising alone, nobody would help with first aid treatment or it may be long before anybody notices that you are in distress. That would not be the case when you are in a group. Usually injury occurs when a part of the body has not warmed up enough or because a part of the body is not getting enough work out. This is because people are likely to focus more on what seems to give them problem rather than exercising every part of the body. When you do this work out under the supervision of a professional instructor the risk of getting injured would be minimized. And generally, you would achieve your weight loss and fitness goals faster when you exercise with a friend or with a group of people.
